A directory of Substack publications devoted to adventure
What is AdventureStack?
Finding adventure-themed newsletters on Substack can be challenging because there is no dedicated “Adventure” category. As a result, readers often miss out on discovering these great publications. That’s where AdventureStack comes in.
AdventureStack is a curated directory of adventure-themed Substack publications. The newsletters in AdventureStack focus solely on adventure, making it a convenient destination that simplifies your search so you don’t spend hours scrolling through unrelated content.
AdventureStack will initially list publications alphabetically and may change to include categories to make browsing easier for readers. I expect to complete the first edition of the AdventureStack directory in December 2024.
AdventureStack aims to be a single location where readers and writers can discover newsletters specific to this topic.
Do you want to be listed in AdventureStack?
It’s taken me a long time to find Substack adventure writers, primarily because Substack lacks a designated “Adventure” category.
During this period, I’ve discovered authors who focus on adventure—covering topics like hiking, trail running, remote paddling, hunting, and fishing. And I’m sure there are more out there.
Substack recently introduced an “Adventure Travel” category, but it’s unclear how publications are selected, and it doesn’t fully address the broader adventure niche.
Without an “adventure” category, I get distracted by fascinating but unrelated content. As a result, Substack places more of these off-topic posts in front of me, which becomes a distraction. Once, while browsing trail-running content, I was bombarded with commentary about crypto and politics, which were exciting but irrelevant.

What do I mean by “adventure”?
Are you interested in getting your publication listed? Here’s what I mean by “adventure.”
Adventure includes any, generally outdoor-based, activity that involves excitement, risk, or a remarkable experience.
Merriam-Webster defines adventure as “an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks” and “an exciting or remarkable experience.”
If these definitions sound like your publication (or a significant aspect of it), then AdventureStack is for you. Do you write about hang gliding? Remote camping? Backcountry hunting? New adventures in parenting, like taking your toddlers camping for the first time? Are you trying a new sport in middle age? Are you undertaking an adventure that’s forcing you out of your comfort zone? These may have a place in AdventureStack.
Criteria
Subjective interpretations aside, here’s the criteriafor a publication’s inclusion in AdventureStack:
Adventure, as described above, is a central theme of your publication.
Your publication has been active on Substack for at least six months.
You engage in your writing and the topics you write about with an open mind and are tolerant of other people’s perspectives.
Are you interested in having your publication listed in AdventureStack?
One way to show your support for this project and the time I invest in it is to sign up for Next Adventure. Your participation is not just a subscription but a vote of confidence in the value of adventure writing.
This is great. Definitely needed here in substack.
